I have used this resource with my year 2 group of Expected/Working At and Greater Depth/Working Above readers to introduce them to reading chapter books. The children have really enjoyed the tasks. The children call this their ‘selfie questions’ as they answer them independently after reading in pairs. This resource contains planning for the entire book. Each session is based on 5 pages from the book. The questions cover a range of different types including retrieval, inference, prediction and clarification and each ‘selfie’ sheet has two extension tasks. This resource pack also includes my introduction lesson where the children use their prediction skills to explain what they thought the story would include, a recount of the story lesson and the summary lesson after completing the book to create their own book review. This is a resource which could also be used with Year 3 readers as well.

This resource contains 10 posters which you can use as part of a Growth Mindset display within your classroom. They are positive messages of hope and resilience which hopefully will motivate your students as much as they motivate mine.
